IOLA -- Fort Scott High School senior Paige Denton has participated in just two cross-country meets this season. This is because she also plays volleyball and since she has declared that her priority sport, she doesn't get to run much as most cross-country meets and volleyball matches are held on Thursdays.

However, Denton got to take part in Tuesday's Doc Stiles Invitational at Iola and finished the girls' varsity race with the top time of 15:47.02 over four kilometers. Pittsburg's Sarah Jewett was second in 15:56.40.

Uniontown's Kelli Wilkinson was 19th in the girls' varsity race in 18:38.23 and Rachel DeMoss was 42nd in 20:27.28. Neither Fort Scott nor Uniontown had varsity boys' entrants.

Fort Scott JV girls' results saw Grace Willis finish in eighth place in 19:34.21, Clare Gorman 12th in 19:57.64, and Kyle Brown 32nd in 22:15.36. Zach Ballou took 23rd in the boys' JV race in 23:11.67. Garrett Tatro was sixth in the freshman boys' race in 16:17.70. Uniontown did not enter any JV runners.

Denton's other cross-country appearance was Sept. 12 at Drexel, Mo., where she won that meet in 19:24. Romine of Holden, Mo., was second in
