Uniontown splits in home opener vs. larger schools
UNIONTOWN -- Uniontown's volleyball team split in its home opener Tuesday night against a pair of CNC schools. The Eagles defeated Erie, 23-25, 25-16, 25-16, and lost to Girard, 25-22, 26-24.
"Both of these matches went great," Uniontown head coach Jackie Hall said. "These teams are always fundamentally sound and play great volleyball. We played well against both teams."
Hayden Rathbun and Emily Shinn had 5 kills each against Erie. Shinn recorded 10 blocks and Brit Stokes had 19 assists.
In the Girard match, Hannah Travis had 3 kills, Shinn recorded 12 blocks and Stokes handed out 13 assists.
The Uniontown junior varsity swept Erie 25-16, 25-16, and lost to Girard, 25-13, 25-5.
The Eagles play their first Three Rivers League matches Thursday at Altoona against host Midway and visiting Oswego.
