KDOT to auction off U.S. 54 right-of-way

Kansas Department of Transportation will auction off some excess land Tuesday.

The 3.44-acre tract is located approximately one mile east of Fort Scott on U.S. 54, east of Redbud Nursery and south of the old railroad tracks, KDOT Public Affairs Manager for the Southeast District Priscilla Peterson said. The auction is scheduled for 10 a.m. Aug. 14 at the site.

Auctioneer is Kurt Daniels with KDOT. Inspection of the property will take place at 9 a.m. the day of the sale and the minimum bid is $4,475, Peterson said. The land is considered standalone for recreational or agricultural use. Peterson said it is irregular in shape and unimproved with overgrown trees and brush.

KDOT auctions off excess land as needed, she said. Proceeds go back into KDOT's general highway fund, which can be used to purchase more rights-of-way, Peterson said.
