City approves budget publication

The Fort Scott City Commission approved publication of the 2013 city budget in The Fort Scott Tribune during a special meeting Tuesday afternoon.

Next year's budget includes a $6.4 million general fund and a plan to keep the overall mill levy flat at 48.8 mills. Assessed valuations increased from $45,253,294 to $46,038,997 in the 2013 budget.

The budget shows about $13.6 million in net expenditures and about $2.2 million in property tax generated through Bourbon County taxpayers. Debt service increased from $18.9 million in the 2012 budget to $22.9 million in next year's budget.

Next on the commission's agenda concerning the budget is a public hearing at 6 p.m. Aug. 7 to consider adoption of the final budget and answer any questions from taxpayers on the proposed use of all funds and the amount of ad valorem tax.
