Eagle baseball gets first victory of season
BRONSON, Kan. -- Uniontown High School's baseball team chalked up its first victory of the season Thursday, beating Hume 12-2 in a non-league game at Dawson Field.
The second game started but was called off after one inning due to a conflict with another activity for Hume.
The Hornets scored both their runs in the top of the first inning. Uniontown got one of those runs back in the bottom of the inning when Mitchell Newman singled home Garret Murrow.
The Eagles scored 5 in the bottom of the second, Jordan Woods bringing two of them in with his fourth home run of the season.
Uniontown added 2 in the fourth and 4 in the fifth to bring the 10-run rule into effect. Freshman John Kuns was the winning pitcher, allowing 6 hits and no walks in five innings while striking out 7 Hornets.
Woods, Newman, and Jacob Duffey each had 2 hits for the Eagles (1-11). Woods drove in 5 runs while Newman brought 2 runs home. Murrow scored 4 runs, Woods 3 and Duffey and Max Labbe 2 each.
The Eagles will play a non-league doubleheader at Neodesha Monday.
