Arcadia church hosts special service

Palm Sunday at Arcadia Christian Church was a special service this year in that a newcomer Trent Gingery, a 15-year old eighth-grade student at Northeast High School from Arcadia, sang a special number that morning.
At sermon time, Pastor Charles Cable's scripture was delivered by song as he sang from the Book of Psalms.
Twenty-seven were seated at the tables at the noon hour for the First Sunday of the month chicken dinner.
The Easter breakfast, given by the Open Door Church, was held at Arcadia Community Center from 7:30-8:30 a.m. on April 1.
Jack and Mary Lee Payne recently returned from a five-day trip to Frankston, Texas, to visit with her brother, Carter Eggen. On Friday night, they were joined by his sons Stan and Curt and families and enjoyed a buffet dinner at a local restaurant in nearby Athens, Texas.
The Paynes spent the night at a Tyler, Texas, hotel and enjoyed a mini-tour of the local azaleas, which were in full bloom, as they started their journey back to Kansas.
The Arcadia postmaster has announced the hiring of two new people to work with her in Arcadia. Kaitlyn Brooks of Mulberry will be the postmaster relief and Gallaway Belt from Devon, Kan., is the new RCA worker as the deliverer of Saturday mail on the Arcadia rural route.
Class No. 10 held its March 21 meeting in Christian Church Bungalow on Wednesday afternoon with seven ladies present.
President Patty Peterson opened the meeting with pledges to Christian and U.S. flags.
She then read from the book of Judges about the wife of Sampson named Manoah. A thank you was read from Sandy Watt Nuzum, whose husband died recently.
Others present who enjoyed the refreshments served by Patty were Judy Rawlngs, Carole Garrison, Betty Dehn, the treasurer, and Mary V. Shead, the secretary.
We are sorry learn of the death of Floyd Crites, 89, a 1941 graduate of Arcadia High School.
His late wife was the former Edna Yartz, formerly of Arcadia. Longtime neighbors Mr. and Mrs. John Parrish were among those in attendance at the funeral services on Saturday, March 31, Bedene Funeral Home in Arma.
Lou and Betty Dehn returned home after spending four days on the west coast of Florida around Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda.
Chris and Mindy Payne, Arma, have announced the birth of son Thomas James on March 8, 2012, at Via Christi Hospital. His sibling is Jaxson Lee Payne. Grandparents are Jeff and Sherry Payne Sisney. Great-grandmother is Helen Sisney and great-great grandparents are Jack and Mary Lee Payne of Arcadia. Maternal great-grandparents are Tom and Ronnie Davied of Franklin.
A dinner was held on March 24 to celebrate the 60th birthday of Ralph Shead in their home in Carl Junction Mo. Guests for the evening were their son and wife, Matthew and Ashley Shead, Doug and Carol Reed, Marv and Jana Dahmen, all of Joplin; Cody, Dinne and Brielle Stinnett, Carl Junction; Ralph's mother, Mary V. Shead, Arcadia, and hostess, Cindy Shead, who prepared the dinner.
Mary V. was overnight guest and attended church with family where Ralph helped lead the singing and read the devotions for the communion time. With a group of college students who attended the church services that morning, the Sheads enjoyed lunch with them at the Carl Junction Pizza Parlor.
