Uniontown 4-H hosts meeting

President Drew George called the monthly meeting of the Uniontown 4-H Club to order on Wednesday, March 14, at the Uniontown Community Building.

Secretary Amber Bartlett called roll. Fourteen members answered roll by stating their favorite college basketball team.

Torrie Hathaway led the group in the flag salute. Cole George led the group in the 4-H pledge.

Secretary Amber Bartlett read the minutes of the February meeting.

Laura George gave a leader's report. She announced to the members that sheep, goat and hog tag in dates are May 2 at Uniontown and May 5 at the Fort Scott fairgrounds. The horse health papers are due on May 1, 2012. Bourbon County Born papers are due in the extension office by June 1. There will be a junior leaders meeting to be held at the 4-H building in Fort Scott on March 26.

Leader Teresa Martin gave a report that she will be hosting a food meeting March 31 to work on labeling and nutrition.

Drew George gave a short presentation about his Relay for Life team. He will be bringing a cardboard piggy bank to the meeting if members want to bring change to donate to help fight cancer.

Rhian Gorman gave a project talk about raising and showing her goats, Sparky and Bones, last year.

Robyn Martin gave a health and safety talk about ticks. She informed the group how to repel and remove ticks and treat tick bites.

Recreation leader Robyn Martin led the members in a 4-H sticker jump and find game.

Song leaders Dawson Bolinger and Bryce Meanor assisted by Rhian Gorman led the group in singing "Yankee Doodle."

Group leader Laura George recognized Cole George for being a state finalist in the horse project, Drew George for receiving top blue on his speech at the regional contest and Chase Gleason for receiving a blue ribbon for his participation in the model meeting.

The next meeting will be held April 11 at the Uniontown Community Building.

Refreshments were served by the Gorman and Gleason families.
