(1912)
For some time now, President Bush of the Missouri Pacific, has been in the East getting financial backing for his road. The shops here have been partly closed this winter on account of the enormous expense of fixing the roadbed of this division. As soon as the finances are secured the business here, as well as other places, will be increased and the entire division will improve..
Restaurant thieves were busy in Fort Scott last night, busy in making good hauls at two places.
TOPEKA -- Kansas dairymen who thought that they could put water into rich milk and still keep the milk above the standards for butterfat will be prosecuted, the same as those who water poor milk to increase the quantity. The Kansas Board has made rulings that prohibit this.
There will be a special school children matinee at 1 p.m. tomorrow at the Pictureland Theatre, Prices are 5 cents and 10 cents.
Little Folks, we have set aside Saturday especially for you to look over our assortment of "Tiny Togs for Tony Tots." Our north window will be devoted to the display of hats, dresses, coats, etc.

(March 18) -- Two anniversaries are being observed this week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Givens, 323 S. Hill St., one of them being their 62nd wedding anniversary, which is today, they having been married in Fort Scott on March 18. 1875. The other anniversary this week important to the Givens family was Mr. Givens' 82nd birthday, he having been born on March 15, 1855, in Butler County, Kentucky. Mr. Givens came to Fort Scott in 1867, and he and his wife have lived here continuously ever since except for a period from 1879 to 1884 which they spent in Illinois. They have lived at their present location 24 years.
Mr. and Mrs. Givens were married in the old stone courthouse which stood on the present location of the public library. Probate Judge Day performed the ceremony. Mrs. Givens, prior to her marriage, was Miss Mary Elizabeth Mayberry. She is now 79 years of age.

Our loss is Uniontown's gain in Dick McKinnis who will step up to the principal post in the Rural High School there next year. Dick has done a good job here, as he did at Uniontown before coming here, but the step up the ladder to an administrative position will be good for both him and the school. McKinnis plans to coach football, his first year at least, which is good news. He turned out some fine ball teams when he was on the coaching staff there, especially his basketball team which won the Linn League title two years ago when they finished the season with a 26-2 record and won the Linn League tournament.
