ROBERT SHERWOOD COX
Robert Sherwood Cox, 84, of Fort Scott, Kan., formerly Pleasanton, Kan., died Friday Feb. 17, 2012, at Fort Scott Manor in Fort Scott, Kan.
He was born at Pleasanton, the son of John Franklin and Barbara Ellen Jackson Cox. He served his country during World War II in the United States Army.
He married Virginia Staton on July 5, 1945. She preceded him in death on Jan. 30, 1997. He later married Estelle White on Nov. 13, 1998.
He worked in maintenance for different companies and retired from Stone Container. Robert was a member of the Pleasanton First Baptist Church and the VFW Post No. 862 in Pleasanton. Robert had a passion for John Deere Tractors.
Also preceding him in death were two sons, John and Richard Cox, a daughter Deanna Rousch, two infant children, Roger and Linda, and three brothers, J.D. Cox, Clarence Cox and Jess Stroud.
He is survived by his wife Estelle Cox; three sons, Danny Cox, Robert Cox and Russell Cox; four daughters, Laura Wilson, Virginia Hodges, April Jacobs and Sandy Gibbs; a sister, Pauline Dingus, 22 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the Schneider Funeral Home, Pleasanton Chapel.
Burial will be in the Trading Post Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.
