Victor G. Kreyer, a former Fort Scott resident and widely known in music circles, died Thursday at the Freman Hospital at Joplin, Mo. Mr. Kreyer is well remembered by many Fort Scott residents. For many years he was director of the Kreyer Band and orchestra here, one of the best in this part of the country. The Kreyer Band was known all over southeast Kansas and southwest Missouri. His orchestra that played for many years at the old Davidson Theater was an excellent one. Mr. Kreyer also had charge of the music at the Scottish Rite Temple and some of his original compositions are still in use there. He left Fort Scott about 25 years ago.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- You may be doing a little extra arithmetic when you make out your income tax return for 1963 -- and the Treasury may be $600 million richer without having hit the honest taxpayer any harder. This is the prospect held out by the Treasury and the House Ways and Means Committee, which ordered drafted a new tax code provision for withholding of income tax on dividends and interest.
The principle is the same as withholding on wages, now an old story.
Competition is going to be keen among some 27 aspirants to the title of Kansas' Outstanding Young Man, according to John Baker, state chairman of the Jaycee committee to select three outstanding young men of the state and an outstanding teacher. Baker said he expected the judges, made up of Fort Scott business executives, would have served long hours deciding which three of the 27 would qualify as the most outstanding. The awards will be based on achievement, leadership; and service to the community.
