If your salary stops when you are sick or injured reach out for a friend. $1 per month will buy a perfect disability policy in the Old United States (Old Line Company), that pays $50 monthly for accident, limit 5 years and $50 a month for illness, also other indemnities, depending on occupation. Contractor A.L. Keplinger has just finished the foundation for the new bowling alleys at the Y.M.C.A. The alleys will be laid and ready in about two weeks. The bowling record in Fort Scott is 256 points out of a possible 300. This record is held by C.B. Drake, who made that high score in the Masterson Alleys about five years ago. Although a general depression may have a bad effect on most businesses, it seems that the effect is just the contrary on the business of dealing in pelts and hides. Clyde Lee, of the Fort Scott Hide, Fur and Wool Company of 220 N. National Ave., stated that so far this winter his company has handled more than twice as many pelts and hides as in any winter of the past up to this date.

When the present term expires this year, the Fort Scott City Commission will be left without John Baker, a veteran of local politics, and without present Mayor Peggy Niles.
Baker, one of the two top most experienced local office holders, said: "I've been a commissioner for 14 years, but feel it is time for someone else to have a chance. Baker is a former probate judge and was the mayor to be elected under the "strong mayor" city government system. Subsequent mayors have been elected by the commission and not through general election.
Mayor Niles, appointed to the commission in 1984 to fill a vacancy, said she did not plan to file for election.
She said her recent promotion to vice president of Citizen's National Bank was the biggest factor in her decision.
