Cut rate sales are in general evidence in Fort Scott, and not to be outdone Probate Judge W.R. Russell announced this morning that for a few days only a cut rate sale on marriage licenses will be in effect and that they may now be had for $1.78 instead of the usual $2. He also has agreed that in order to further stimulate business during the early part of Leap Year, he will officiate free at the marriage of any couple where the young lady will make a statement that she proposed. The judge spent some time yesterday figuring, finally determining that this was a saving of a sack of flour and considerable number of groceries to any couple contemplating matrimony and that it would be a bargain for anyone, and he expected a rush at the matrimonial altar.

News of Farmers and Farming (By Harry V. Cowan, Tribune Farm Editor):
Our hearts have been stirred as we read in the papers about families in the cities which were in dire need at Christmas time. However, thanks to the Christmas spirit, they were provided for at that time. But the cities we read about are not the only places where there is suffering and privation.

As of noon today, Fort Scott police said that there had been no accidents reported in Bourbon County, though wreckers were dispatched several times because of cars becoming stuck in the moist slush covering the roads.
