Virginia Lee "Tootie" Meek, 86, a former resident of Richards, Mo., and currently of Fort Scott, Kan., died early Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, at the Mercy Health Center in Fort Scott. She was born Nov. 7, 1925, at Richards, Mo., the daughter of William Leon Poyner and Elsie Pearl Buris Poyner. She married Francis M. "Frank" Meek on Oct. 15, 1942, at Eldorado Springs, Mo. He preceded her in death on Dec. 25, 2003.
Mrs. Meek enjoyed sewing and flowers, as well as spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Harry Lee Meek, Fort Scott, and Charles Leon Meek, and wife Helen, Richards, Mo., and a daughter, Brenda Sue Budd and husband Albert Lee, Hume, Mo. Also surviving is a sister, Martha Cook, Fort Scott; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Meek, and three brothers, Merle, Charles and Bob Poyner.
Rev. Mark Stetler will conduct graveside services at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, at the East Liberty Cemetery at Stotesbury, Mo.
Family and friends will meet at the Cheney Witt Chapel prior to leaving for the cemetery at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Cheney Witt Chapel.
