Tiger Debaters place in tourney

The Fort Scott debate squad competed at a two-day tournament at Parsons this past Friday and Saturday. In the overall sweeps the Tigers only managed third but had individual success by putting three teams into out-rounds. Partners: Ashley Allen/ Eric Garner, Taylor Watkins/Courtney Rooks, and Gage Addington/ Michael Nighswonger all finished preliminary rounds with strong 4-1 records. This put all three into quarterfinals. Only Ashley and Eric advanced; winning their next round as well putting them into finals. They dropped here on a 1-2 decision but still had an outstanding tournament.

Coach Brian Weilert commented, "We competed very well. Courtney and Taylor are both novices and Gage and Eric are second years. Ashley has been limited this year due to other commitments. I am proud of the effort they have put forward to be able to compete at this level."

The squad will host the National Qualifying tournament on December 9 and 10. Anyone interested in judging should contact a debate team member or coach Weilert directly.
