Sheriff investigating Friday night stabbing of local woman

The Vernon County Sheriff's Office Friday night was investigating the stabbing of a woman in Richards on the northwest side of the county.

Sheriff Ron Peckman said at 7 p.m. that one of his deputies was interviewing the victim in the emergency room at Nevada Regional Medical Center, where a Richards resident had taken her in a private vehicle.

Reporting that it appeared the victim would recover, Peckman said the incident "could be a domestic assault.

"I heard about it 30 minutes ago and we're getting her information as to what happened," he said.

The sheriff said the suspect was a Richards man who was not in custody. He said the deputy's report would be completed before any action was taken.
