Strong Kids holiday auction set for Nov. 11 at YMCA
Hoping to keep making healthful activities available to all Vernon Countians, organizers are earnestly preparing for the annual Osage Prairie YMCA Strong Kids Holiday Festival on Friday, Nov. 11.
Co-Chair Lori Fast said fundraising at the high profile 6 p.m. event, held for at least the past 10 years, has been somewhat unpredictable, ranging from $12,000 during good economic times to $5,000 in more stringent years, so its traditional supporters and perhaps some new ones must go all out this time to make its silent and live auctions successful.
"Our scholarship financial assistance program provides funding for children and families who couldn't otherwise afford activity fees for group sports, gymnastics, adult group exercises or family memberships," said Fast.
"The Y's philosophy is that we don't want to turn anybody away from living a healthy lifestyle."
Teaming with Co-Chair Amanda Bourassa, Fast said more than 100 items will be sold in the silent auction while the live auction bids for bigger items will include a University of Missouri tailgate package, decorated Christmas trees and a weekend getaway at Chateau on the Lake in Branson.
The silent sale will feature a tremendous variety of things like tools, sunglasses, gift certificates and a twinkling array of holiday decor.
"We're still waiting to hear from businesses on live auction items," Fast said. "We'll also have live music, hors d'oeuvre, desserts and free child care with a reservation. We usually have about 200 people."
Tickets are $5 at the YMCA at 500 W. Highland Ave. or (417) 667-9622. With holiday lighting and Christmas decorations on the tables, the festival will end about 8:30 p.m.
