Savage ties single-season goal-scoring mark with 23

Senior Don Savage tied Fort Scott High School's single-season goal-scoring mark in the Tigers' 7-1 rout of Coffeyville in Southeast Kansas League play at Ellis Park Thursday evening.

Savage scored two goals to tie the record of 23 goals. David Goff added three goals for the Tigers and Wyatt Hulbert put in two more.

With the victory, Fort Scott clinched no worse than second place in the SEK with a league mark of 6-2. They are 10-5 overall. Coffeyville fell to 3-3, 9-5 with two SEK games remaining. Independence, which has won at least a share of the last eight league titles, was on top at 5-0, 9-3 going into Thursday night's match with winless Columbus.

Fort Scott will wrap up regular-season play with a home match at 4:30 p.m. Monday against Riverton. The Tigers are expected to host a first-round Regional playoff game for the third consecutive year.
