Tigers second at Labette County
PARSONS -- Fort Scott High School's junior varsity tennis team finished second in a tournament hosted by Labette County here Tuesday. The Tigers had 9 team points to Pittsburg's 14.
The highest-placing entry was the No. 1 doubles team of Jasmine Davis and Aubin Duff, which finished second. They defeated Fletcher/Smith of Parsons, 6-1, Sexton/Close of LCHS, 6-5 (7-4), and Forrest/McAuarrie of "SEK Combined" (a fill-in team with players from LCHS and Pittsburg), 6-2. Their only loss was to Hicks/Pichler of Pittsburg, 6-5 (8-6).
Sammi Carr was third in No. 1 singles. She defeated LC's Stevenson, 6-4, and SEK's Mendez, 6-1. She lost to Rea of Parsons and Laidler of Pittsburg, both by 6-2 scores.
Natalie Carr placed third in No. 2 singles. She defeated McCoach of LCHS, 6-3, and shut out Fogelman of SEK. She lost to Foster of Parsons, 6-2, and Beachner of Pittsburg, 6-1.
Danielle McDowell and Holly Duff took third in No. 2 doubles. They defeated Boydston/Gandi of Parsons, 6-4, and Carr/Harrison of SEK Combined, 6-2. They lost to Baker/Harrison of LCHS, 6-1, and Sullivan/Cicero of Pittsburg, 6-0.
The JV Tigers will host a four-team invitational Monday with Chanute, Coffeyville and Parsons participating
