Drive-thru flu shot clinic scheduled
For yet another year, the Southeast Kansas Health Department and Fort Scott First United Methodist Church are teaming up for the annual drive-thru flu shot clinic.
This year's event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14, at the First United Methodist Church, 301 S. National Ave. The fee for the flu shot will be $30, however, cash or check payments will be discounted at $25. Some insurance is accepted, according to information provided by the SEK Health Department. The following insurance will be accepted: Medicare Part B (bring secondary insurance), Medicaid, and Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Insurance cards must be presented at the time of service. Railroad Medicare will not be accepted.
Last year, about 130 individuals took advantage of the annual event, a turnout that Bourbon County Public Health Nurse Alice Maffitt said was successful.
According to an email from Bourbon County Emergency Manager Keith Jeffers, the event will also be used as a full-scale exercise for local and regional responders, hospitals and public health agencies.
Shots will be administered underneath the covered drive on the west side of the church. Participants in the event are asked to enter the drive from Main Street onto Fourth Street to the south.
