Mae Watt was pleased to be able to attend a Sunday singing service by a choir from Cherry Grove Baptist Church where she was greeted by two of her longtime friends, Perry Dobbins and Doylene Shoemaker.
Charity and Sam Jackson along with Daniel and Grace of Deerfield, Mo., were Aug. 28 Sunday dinner guests in the home of Larry and Vickie Shead, rural Garland. Others present were Mark, Haley, Katy and Benjamin Shead of Fort Scott.
Honor was given to the helpers in the Oskaloosa Baptist Church Bible School the night of their closing program. They included Betty Dehn and helper, Kyle; Kendra Bearden, Samatha Basonice, Janelle Bunney, Chris Beardeen, Evelyn Bryant, Donna Cobbler, Willa Cable, Patty Peterson and Betty Dobbins. Students were picked up both from Arcadia and the Missouri area. A meal was served each evening, to both young and old.
The August Saturday night gathering of Arcadia High School Our Gang in the Arcadia Community Center was attended by 25 members and friends who enjoyed a fine carry-in dinner. A decorated birthday cake was presented and served with other baked desserts with ice cream.
Following dinner, a display of little straw men dressed as hunters with their wooden guns were shown by Louise Holland who makes yard ornaments for different seasons. A very interesting display.
Other guests that evening were Patty Wright who was host for the evening, Steve Morris, Eloise and Fred Wright, Allen Darnaby, John and Judy Rawlings, Barb and Ronnie Kellogg, Bill and Elizabeth Buchanan, Linda Garrett Steele, Gary Cambers, Marie Seward, Howard Holland, Ruth Holland, Ava Gibson, Janetta Gibson, Kenny Cambers, Mary V. Shead and Charles Corporon. A very special guest was Rose Shular Campbell, Pittsburg, who is not only a graduate of AHS but also returned later to AHS as a teacher of business courses and home economics. Former schoolmates and students welcomed her.
Elizabeth Semple, 1-year- old daughter of Stuart and Ashley Semple, Redfield, Kan., enjoyed her birthday party in Gunn Park in Fort Scott on Saturday, Aug. 27. Among her adult friends attending were Wayne and Christie Parrish, Karter and Allyson Dugan; Charles and Willa Cable and Patty Peterson. Elizabeth's parents are active as song leader and teacher in Arcadia Christian Church.
In church the next day, as Patty and Gary Peterson gave their 52nd wedding anniversary offering, little Elizabeth gave her birthday offering with the help of her proud dad. Robin Kerr from Walker, Mo., was special guest that morning with her good friend Ashley Semple.
Betty Dehn took her grandsons, Austin Anderson, Kyle Kraft and Brent Zeller Jr., to visit their great-grandparents before returning them to their own homes in Lexington, Mo.
Their parents are Christina Long, Melissa Due and Brent Zeller, formerly of Arcadia. The boys attended VBS in the Freewill Baptist Church in Oskaloosa on Friday and were in the program on Sunday night.
On Aug. 13, a Good News to Chile board meeting was held at the Shead farm with out-of-town board members present that evening for a dinner of salads and homemade breads. Those present were Tim and Kelli Woodring, Fort Scott; Jim and Joyce Snell, Bartlesville, Okla.; Ralph and Cindy Shead and hosts Vickie and Larry Shead.
This organization was active when the Ralph Shead family members were missionaries in Santiago, Chile. Emory Briggs was a member of the board while living in Arcadia but resigned recently.
