U.S. Rep. Jenkins to visit city, talk about issues

Thursday, August 18, 2011

Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins, R-Kan., will be making a stop in Fort Scott to talk about the issues facing the U.S. government.

Jenkins will be available from 8-9 a.m. on Aug. 29 in the Commission Room at Fort Scott City Hall, 123 S. Main St. According to Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Lindsay Madison, the event will begin with some light refreshments and one-on-one discussion time with a formal presentation and a question-and-answer session to begin at about 8:30 a.m.

The visit comes as one of the stops on Jenkins' August leg of the 2011 Congress to Kansas tour. Earlier this month, she made stops in Lyndon and Lebo where several issues were discussed, including the future of the country, budget debates and wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya, according to Jenkins' office. On Monday, Jenkins stopped in Pleasanton and Osawatomie; Friday she will be in Lawrence at the KU School of Pharmacy, Lecompton City Hall, and the Oskaloosa Public Library.

"The Congress to Kansas tour will be firing on all cylinders for the rest of the summer as I travel around Eastern Kansas listening to the folks and finding solutions to get this country back on the right track," Jenkins said in an email.

The meet and greet event is open to the public.
