Lewis James Allen, 78, of Fort Scott, Kan., died Friday morning, May 27, 2011, at the Medicalodges Nursing Home of Fort Scott.
He was born Feb.12, 1933, in Pittsburg, Kan. the son of Lewis William and Helen Emmerson Allen. He grew up and attended school in Pittsburg and then joined the United States Marines, retiring from the Marines in August of 1974. He was a life member of the V.F.W. He then farmed in the Fort Scott area. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Fort Scott. He was a member of the Gideons International.
Lewis is survived by a daughter, Vivian Elaine Chavez of Decatur, Ala.; a grandson, Ambry James Hurd and a granddaughter, Andrea Nicole Rayburn, both of Alex, Okla.; two sisters, Alice C. Allen-Lovely of Essex, Mass. and Mamie Eugenia Allen-Egbert and husband Donald of Milpitas, Calif.; five nephews, Donald E. Egbert, William Allen Egbert, Kenneth William Baldwin, Marken Lee Baldwin and Bruce Allen Baldwin; one niece, Marcia Baldwin Gardner; several grand nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Helen Louise Allen-Baldwin.
Rev. Reed Hartford, pastor of the First Christian Church, conducted funeral services at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, at the First Christian Church, Fort Scott, with Military Honors by the U.S. Marine Corps. Honor Detail and burial followed at the Crawford County Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church and may be sent to or left in the care of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, 15 W. Wall St., Fort Scott, Kan.
