Uniontown senior Emily Aikins earned a seventh-place medal in the girls' 100-meter dash at the Kansas Class 3A State Track and Field Championships at Wichita Saturday.

In the preliminaries held early Saturday morning, Aikins ran a 13.20, which made her the eighth-best qualifier. The time was good for fifth in her heat.

Mandy Wilson, a junior from Rossville who finished fourth in this event last year, won the head in 12.66. Defending champ Imani Fenner of Wichita Independent won her heat in 12.72.

Fenner won the final, successfully defending her title, finishing in 12.47 while Wilson clocked in at 12.64 and Tina Liu of Independent was third in 12.67. Aikins finished seventh -- the last medal position -- in 13.18, winning her prize by 1/100th of a second.

Aikins qualified for State as a sophomore and junior as well and won a medal in long jump last year.

Rossville's girls defended their team title beating out Hays Thomas More Prep by 11 points. Hutchinson Trinity won its first boys' team title by 18 points over Scott City.
