Tiger boys second at Chanute

CHANUTE -- Fort Scott's boys track team finished in second place at the Thad Clements Invitational here Friday.

The Tigers finished 8 points behind champion Chanute as they won 17 events.

Fort Scott's girls finished in sixth place with 11 medals and 51 points, one behind Labette County. Pittsburg ran away with the team title with 143 points while runner-up Chanute scored 115.

Griffin Knopp won two events and took second in another for Fort Scott's boys. He won high jump by clearing 6 feet, 4 inches. He was also entered in javelin for the first time this season and won by over 7 feet with a best of 165' 6". Knopp was second in triple jump at 41' 5 3/4".

Brady Fink was the Tigers' other event winner, taking the 400-meter dash in 53.08 seconds. Dezmund Willard took second in 53.24 as well as in the 100 meters in 11.15 and the 200 in 23.01.

Josh Buller took second in the 800-meter run in 2:11.49 while Pierce Rienbolt was fifth in 2:16.68. Buller also finished fourth in long jump with an effort of 19' 6".

Drew Bryant led Fort Scott's three shot put medalists with a third-place effort of 44' 6". Cody McGehee was fourth at 42' 9" and Daniel Durbin was sixth at 41' 11".

Fink was fourth in high jump at 5' 10" while Cody Harper was sixth at 5' 6".

McGehee also claimed fifth in the 300-meter hurdles in 46.35 while David Goff was sixth in 46.47.

Race Kastl was sixth in the 110-meter hurdles in 17.28.

Paige Denton was the only event winner for Tiger girls, taking the 1,600-meter run in 5:44.23. She also claimed second in the 3,200 meters in 12:46.99.

Mallory Shelton finished second in high jump after clearing 4' 10". Megan McDermed finished second in javelin at 118' 4", finishing 7 inches behind the winner, Haley Taylor of Chanute. Marliss Allen took fourth in that event at 111' 5" while Jillian Lattimer was fifth at 101' 6".

Katren Rienbolt was third in the 300-meter hurdles in 50.35 seconds and fifth in triple jump at 32' 7". Allen was sixth in triple jump with a mark of 32' 1 1/2" and in long jump at 14' 9".

Rikki Butler rounds out girls' results with a time of 2:45.58 in the 800 meters.

Next up for the Tigers is the annual Southeast Kansas League Relay at Iola's Riverside Stadium Thursday afternoon.
