Letters to the Editor
To the Editor:
I wish to complain. I have been a longtime subscriber of the Tribune.
In the past, I could the paper from cover to cover in about 15 minutes.
Now it takes me an hour to read the many interesting articles and the pictures.
You and your dedicated staff of reporters are doing an excellent job. Keep up the good work.

To the Editor:
"Save Golf for Bourbon County"
Thanks go to all those who have been involved in the effort to "Save Golf for Bourbon County" Phase I. Through the efforts of the city of Fort Scott, the Bourbon County Commission and the private sector of our county, the golf course has been purchased from the Carney family and is being prepared for the upcoming golf season. Golf in Bourbon County is very important to current residents, industrial prospects and their families and retirees looking at our area as a place in which to live.
Currently, approximately $200,000 has been raised by the private sector of our Bourbon County community and has been pledged to the city of Fort Scott to help with the purchase of the golf course. Additionally, the Bourbon County Commission has pledged $20,000 per year for the next five years ($100,000) to assist in this project.
What has already been accomplished through the efforts of the private and public sector is truly amazing and may be unprecedented. But to this point, all that has been accomplished is the securing of the golf course for Bourbon County. Additional funding is needed to bring our golf course up to normal, acceptable golf course standards and for further improvements.
"Save Golf for Bourbon County" Phase II of the Private Fundraising for the golf course is now under way. If an additional $200,000 is raised, this money will be used to upgrade and enhance our course into one of which our community can be proud and will draw visitors from outside of our county who will come to pay to play.
Such improvements might include reshaping and re-contouring some greens, tee boxes and sand traps; necessary tree removal and tree and vegetation replacement; establishing an ample water supply for all-season course irrigation, etc.
If you or your company are interested in helping with this effort by financially supporting Phase II, please send your tax deductible donation to the city of Fort Scott.
Due to the difficulty of personally reaching out to everyone who is willing and wanting to help in this effort, please do not wait to be personally contacted. In mid-summer or thereabouts, all individuals and businesses who have chosen to financially support this effort will be publicly recognized by the city in the Fort Scott Tribune.
Be a part of something really special which will benefit the Bourbon County community and Bourbon County families for generations to come.
