Fort Scott FFA recounts activities this year

On Nov. 4, FFA members and their guests gathered at Kyle Parks' house to join in a hayrack ride and "Hobo" soup. Nov. 11th on a Thursday night, they ate pizza in Mr. Parks' classroom and later played dodge ball in the high school gym. Seven senior girls left at 7:30 in the morning to attend a Woman in Agriculture conference at lola.

An FFA meeting was held Dec. 30 in the auditorium at the high school. Many members joined the Christmas party at the Key Hole Dec. 14 at 6:30 p.m. to play games and eat deli food.

Another FFA meeting was held on Jan. 12.

Two teams traveled to Labette on Jan. 20 to compete at a welding contest. The A-team consisted of Trevor Swim, Kaleb Simpson, Luke Brown, and Dylan Weber. B-team was Frank Scott, Codi Winningham, Dillon Weddle and Brett Taylor. Kaleb Simpson placed 2nd A-individual, Trevor Swim placed 5th A-individual and Codi Winningham placed 9th B-individual. Fort Scott's A-team was 2nd and B-team placed 6th.

Feb. 2 there was a Dairy Foods contest in Coffeyville. There were two teams that attended. A-team was Luke Brown, Caitlin Shorter, Codi Winningham, Laine Parks, and Sam Morrell. B-team was Dillon Weddle and Tyler Weber. Fort Scott's A-team placed 5th and B-team placed 7th. FFA hosted a blood drive on Feb. 7 during school hours.

Around 50 people donated blood. Another FFA meeting was held on Feb. 9. There was a dodge ball tournament at 8 p.m. Feb. 19 in Fredonia. Three teams participated.

Team 1 consisted of Blake Holt, Grant Hill, Kyle Perry, Preston Church, Lake Karleskint, Dylan Weber, Ryan Harper and Tyler Endicott. Team 2 was Laine Parks, Natalie Wolf, Krista Wollenberg, Dalton McDonald, Kylee Thomas, Hayes Howser and Haleigh Fleeman. Team 3 was Caitlin Shorter, Brook Gillen, Luke Brown, Chism Hoener, Justin Uhler and Kolby Harris. Members watching on the sidelines were Dominic Fry, Codi Winningham, Brett Taylor, Damon Allen, Tyler Weber, Dillon Weddle, Frank Scott, Riley Wunderly and Dillon Chadd. Plans to attend the Western Farm Show on Feb. 25 had to be canceled due to weather conditions.

March 1, Mr. Parks took four state-degree applications to Neodesha. The four state degree applicants were Caitlin Shorter, Haley Howard, Kolby Harris and Luke Brown. Laine Parks and Ashley Heckman attended the district officer selection in Neodesha and were voting delegates on March 5.

The fourth FFA meeting was held on March 9. Fort Scott celebrated FFA Week March 7-11.

Monday the 7th, we hosted a cookout/teacher appreciation lunch for all the faculty and FFA members. Tuesday, we ventured to Holiday Lanes in Pittsburg for bowling; Wednesday, members skated at Lowe's Skateway, also in Pittsburg.

Thursday, the members and their guests watched movies at Fort Cinema in Fort Scott and Friday, we had another dodge ball and pizza night.
