Goody's to open new store location in Fort Scott

Local shoppers will get a new treat when popular retail store Goody's opens its doors next month at the South Main Shopping Center, 2400 S. Main St.

The store's official grand opening is set for 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 20. On this date, the store will offer a promotion in which the first 150 customers will receive a free tote bag. Two of those customers will have a chance to win a $250 shopping spree at the store, a company spokeswoman said.

Customers who are eager to get a first glimpse of the new Goody's store can attend a ribbon cutting event for the store at 8:45 a.m. Doors will be open to welcome all shoppers at 9 a.m., according to a news release.

The celebration continues on Friday, April 22, with KMDO/KOMB radio in Fort Scott hosting a live radio remote at the shopping center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with games and giveaways for the entire family.

Reward programs for local shoppers such as a membership discount for customers 50 years of age and older, family military discounts and VIP Rewards memberships will be available at the new Goody's store, the release said.

"Fort Scott shoppers deserve a hometown store that delivers great fashion brands at great prices. Goody's is that store," Stage Stores Inc. President and CEO Andy Hall said in the release.

Stage Stores Inc. is the parent company of Goody's.

Hall added that the new Goody's store will offer clothing, accessories and cosmetics for juniors and women as well as a wide range of men's and children's apparel.

The new Goody's store joins Rent-A-Center and Hibbett Sports in the South Main Shopping Center, which is also expected to house a Family Dollar store.

Customers who are not familiar with Goody's will be in for a shopper's delight after browsing the large assortment of quality, brand name apparel and accessories that has for years made Goody's a destination for the latest looks, the release said.

Stage Stores purchased the rights to the Goody's name in 2009 and the retail company began operating stores under the Goody's name in 2010.
