New playground equipment

Work is ongoing at Fisher Park to install new playground equipment. The project, totaling $53,566, is part of a five-year capital improvement plan. Items being put up include crawl tubes with spy holes, a rock wall climber, curved zip slide, funnel bridge with barrier rail, flip slide, wave climber, chain net, loop ladder climber, a swing set and interlocking rubber tiles. The Tribune was unable to find out when the installation would be complete. The equipment, purchased from Cunningham & Associates of Charlotte, N.C., is being paid for from the capital improvement fund and special parks and recreation fund. Fort Scott Assistant City Manager Susan Brown said the special parks and recreation fund receives allocations from the local liquor tax, which is then used to help fund projects to improve local parks. For several years, the city has been allowing that fund to accumulate in anticipation of making the improvements to Fisher Park and Third Street Park, Brown said. (Michael Pommier/Tribune)
