Most Sub-State seeds set; tourneys begin Monday
Most of the Sub-State tournament assignments were released by the Kansas State High School Activities Association Wednesday afternoon.
Fielders were set for the Paola Class 4A Sub-State, which features Fort Scott, the Burlington Class 3A Sub-State, which includes Uniontown, and the Class 2A Sub-State which Jayhawk-Linn is hosting.
The bracket for the Southern Coffey County Class 1A-Division I Sub-State, which includes Pleasanton, was not set at press time.
In Classes 4A and 2A, boys' first-round games will be held Monday and girls' opening games on Tuesday. The schedules for Class 3A and Class 1A-I has girls' games Monday and boys' games Tuesday.
All first-round games are held at the home gym of the team with the higher seed. All semifinals and finals will be contested at the host school's gym.
Boys' semifinals are Thursday in 4A and 2A and Friday in 3A and 1A-I. Girls' semifinals will be Thursday in 3A and 1A-I and Friday in 4A and 2A.
The girls play first on Sub-State championship night Saturday, March 5, at 6 p.m. with boys to follow at 7:30 p.m. in all classes at all sites.
Fort Scott's (10-9) boys drew the No. 4 seed and will host Louisburg (9-10) at 7 p.m. Monday night. Tiger girls (9-10) are the No. 5 seed, winning a tie-breaker with Louisburg, and will be traveling to Iola (11-8) for a 7 p.m. tip-off on Tuesday night.
Both of Uniontown's teams happened to draw Kansas City Christian as their first-round opponents and the schools have agreed to play a doubleheader Tuesday night at Prairie Village. Fifth-seeded Eagle girls (9-10) will tip off against KCC (10-9) at 6 p.m. Sixth-seeded Uniontown boys (5-14) will square off against the Panthers (11-8) at 7:30 p.m.
Although Jayhawk-Linn is the host school for the Class 2A Sub-State, both of its teams will be on the road in the first round as both are seeded fifth in their brackets.
Jayhawk boys (10-10) will travel to Allen to take on Northern Heights (10-9) at 6:30 p.m. Monday night.
Jayhawk-Linn girls (10-10) will be on the road, facing Chase County (11-8) at Cottonwood Falls at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday night.
