IOLA -- Fort Scott Community College's basketball team swept a Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division doubleheader here Saturday.

Fort Scott's men outscored Allen County 34-19 in the second half and prevailed 63-54, beating someone other than Labette in conference play for the first time since February of 2009.

Greyhound women defeated Allen County, 68-41, putting themselves into position to possibly host a first-round game in the upcoming Region VI Tournament, provided they win both games this week and the two teams ahead of them also suffer losses.

Menas Stephens led Fort Scott's men (3-13 East, 4-23 overall) with 27 points and 11 rebounds. Stephens made 9 of 16 field-goal attempts, including 4 of 5 from 3-point range. Teance Walton added 16 points while Alex Barner chipped in with 11.

The 'Hounds shot 51 percent from the floor on 24 of 47. Stephens, Barner and Walton combined to make 20 of 34 field-goal tries.

The Greyhounds hosted Division II North Central Missouri Monday night. FSCC defeated the Pirates in December, 68-62.

Allen's men fell to 4-12, 7-20.

Fort Scott's women (6-10, 9-19) pulled away from Allen (1-15, 3-24) in the second half, outscoring the Red Devils, 40-20. The 'Hounds shot 52 percent from the field on 26 of 50 and outrebounded the Devils, 41-31.

Staci Carter and Kendra Mattox each scored 15 points for Fort Scott. Jolee Sharp added 13 points and Kerenza Singletatry chipped in with 10. Those four combined to make 20 of 35 field-goal tries.

Carter also had 10 rebounds, 7 of those on the defensive boards.

The Greyhounds will host Highland in a conference doubleheader Wednesday night. Since Highland is a Division II school, the outcome of the games will not affect either the men or the women in regards to seeding in the Region VI Tournament.
