Marriage celebrated, loss mourned

During the holiday season, Mr. and Mrs. John Parrish of Pittsburg with their son Wayne Parrish, rural Arcadia and daughter, Janet and Mark Vanleeuwen of St. Paul, Kan., drove to Tulsa, Okla., and attended the wedding of Brian and Rachael Gaines. The groom is the son of Donnetta and Walter Parrish from Texas. Walter is the son of John and Vera Parish.

Guest speaker in the Arcadia Christian Church on Sunday, Jan. 16, was Stuart Semple from Redfield, Kan. His sermon title was "The Great Gift of Forgiveness." He also led the singing assisted by Clay Carrington and two young ladies, Cheyenne Mellon and Bridgette Schmitz from the Youth Class. Announcements were made by Willa Cable. Added to the prayer list this Sunday were for the Herman Tyler family, Edith Bridgewater and Charles Cable. Herman died on Saturday, Jan. 15. Funeral will be 11 a.m., Wednesday Morning in Bedene Funeral Home, Arma. Burial will be in Garden of Memories.

A special invitation to the Arcadia Christian Church from Ava Mae Adams was given to attend a Sunday afternoon a concert in the Arma Methodist Church presented by the country gospel music team called The Fort Boys.

Class No. 10 Ladies meeting will be Jan. 19, 2 p.m. It is a paper shower for the bungalow Day in Arcadia Christian Church.

Due to the fact that family members of Larry and Vickie Shead were visiting their "out of state in-law relatives" at Christmas time in Texas, Wichita, and Michigan, they had a family gathering and gift exchange at the farm on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 15. That evening, they were joined by Ralph and Cindy Shead from Carl Junction, Mo., and Matthew and Ashley Shead, Joplin, Mo., where 18 enjoyed a buffet dinner at the home of Mark, Haley, Katy and Benjamin Shead in Fort Scott. Others included for the weekend were Maria and Clayton Whitson and her sister, Mitzi, Joel, Cademon and Atalie from Tulsa, Okla. Also, Michael and Chrisi Shead from Michigan and Mary V. Shead, Arcadia, the mother or grandma to them all.

Sunday morning many of the group attended Christ's Community Church in Pittsburg to hear Michael and Chrisi Shead tell of their future two-year REACH WORLD Mission trip to Guatemala

On Saturday, Jan. 8, while Ruth Holland of Lamar was visiting her son, Howard and Louise Holland, rural Liberal, they took Ava Mae Adams, a cousin to Louise, with them on a short trip to Arma for an evening of visiting.

The B Team of missionaries from Joplin, Mo., who have been overseas for about a year now are learning the language of the country and moving on to other places. Aubri and David Casey plan to visit his brother and wife, another missisonary, in Austria. The Casey boys are sons of former pastors Phil and Susan Casey in Arcadia Christian Church and as a family were Missionaries in Santiago, Chile.

In the last Chariot of Fire Ministries bulletin from the Philippine Islands it was announced by Jodie Dunn that Galen Dunn has been put on the heart transplant list and asks that friends put them on your payer list. They are now in their Minnesota home.

Scott Ball is raising money for the Polar Bear Plunge for Special Olympics. The group from New Hope, where he is a member, is planning for a skiing trip to Leavenworth, Kan.

The Cato Historical Preservation Association will be meeting again at the Arcadia Community Center on Jan. 25 at 6:30.
