LYLE MERRILL JOHNSON

Lyle Merrill Johnson, age 84, resident of Pittsburg, Kan., died Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, Mo.
He was born March 31, 1926, in rural Walnut, Kan., the son of Merrill Johnson and Mary Etta Cook Johnson.
Lyle was a veteran of WWII having served in the United States Navy.
He married Mildred Linton on June 14, 1947, in Chanute, Kan.
The couple lived in Girard prior to moving to Lamar, Mo., for nine years and then moving to Pittsburg, Kan., in 2004.
He was retired as a self-employed truck driver.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Girard and a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred, of the home; a son, Irvin Johnson, Wichita, Kan.; and a daughter, Lyla Fronsoe, Ventura, Calif.
Also surviving are three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Johnson and Paul Johnson, and one sister Lola Andrews.
Pastor Chuck Russell will conduct funeral services at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec.16, in the Cheney Witt Chapel.
Burial will follow in the U.S. National Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Olson Frary Burkhart Post No. 1165 V.F.W.
