Pleasanton girls win TRL championship
BURLINGTON -- Pleasanton's girls won the Three Rivers League cross-country title Thursday as the Blu-Jays claimed five medals.
For what it's worth, however, Pleasanton was the only girls' team with a full squad needed for team scoring.
Savannah Smith won the individual title with a time of 17:43 over 4 kilometers. Addie Rhea of Crest was second in 18:16. Pleasanton's Linsey Conn was third in a personal-best time of 19:01 and Ashtynn Louk of Marmaton Valley was fourth in 19:13.
Pleasanton took the final three individual spots: Hannah Streeter fifth in 20:39, Ashley Newill sixth in 23:30 and Johnnea Saulsberry seventh in 23:33.
The TRL meet was held concurrently with Burlington's home invitational. Smith had the eighth-best time overall.
Crest won the boys' team title with 23 points followed by Marmaton Valley with 25. Pleasanton and Northeast tied for fourth with 46 points even though Northeast had the league champion in Austin Bogina, who turned in a 16:55 over 5K. He was also the overall winner of the race.
Pleasanton's Dylan Ellis finished ninth in the TRL in 20:27 with Marcus Lewis 11th in 21 minutes flat, Zach Willis was 14th in 21:36 and Caleb Megulin 15th in 22:05.
There was also an eighth-grade girls' race held. Pleasanton's Savannah Reynolds ran a 2-mile course in 15:04, which was a personal best and A.J. Snow was 21st in 16:37.
Pleasanton will host a Class 1A Regional Meet at Sugar Valley Golf Course near Mound City on October 23. The girls' race is set to begin at 2 p.m., with the boys' race at 2:30. Jayhawk-Linn will then host a Class 2A meet with girls at 3 p.m., and boys at 3:30.
Other teams in the 1A Regional are Caldwell, Cedar Vale, Chetopa, Crest, Dexter, Elwood, Goessel, Hartford, Lawrence Bishop Seabury, Longton-Elk Valley, Olpe, Rosalia-Flinthills and St. Paul.
