Aug. 21 fire destroys home in Sheldon

A residential structure fire in Sheldon forced the cancellation of the fireworks display Saturday, Aug. 21, during the Old Settlers' Picnic.

The fire started at approximately 10:30 p.m. in the home of Robert Spencer at First and Main streets.

The Sheldon Fire department requested mutual aid from the Lamar and Milo fire departments until the fire was contained.

The fire rekindled Sunday morning and had to be doused again. The structure was a complete loss.
