The morning of Thursday, July 29, 2010, six students and two teachers/advisers from Sheldon High School, traveled to Blue Springs, Mo., so that they could attend the Team Spirit Leadership Training Conference.

Those students attending were seniors, Ali Textor and Kassidy Fry, Juniors, Cole Worsley, Kendall Mitchell, Dustin Rhoades, and Dustin Ford. Advisers that attended were Christy Lockard and Christy Worsley.

The students and advisers were provided with motivation, leadership skills, and information that will be used in educating all the students at Sheldon School about "Arriving Alive" -- wearing seatbelts, not drinking and driving, and just how to make good decisions in times when it is hard for students.

The Sheldon Team developed an Action Plan that will be followed during the 2010-2011 school year with activities and speakers helping to make an impact on each student and their life.

The Team Spirit Leadership Training Conference was started in 1995 and there are more than 125 schools that have been through the training. Missouri Department of Transportation is the sponsor of the conference and through them the students that attend the conference are educated with resources and activities to use in their school.

Team Spirit Sheldon has many activities planned, starting with an assembly on Friday, Sept. 3, all students K-12 will meet in the gym at 2:30. As the students arrive the music "Blink" from Revive will be playing. The members of the Team Spirit will present a skit and powerful presentation introducing the concepts they learned to all of the Sheldon students.

The Sheldon Team Spirit has many activities and speakers planned for the coming year. One of the first subjects is wearing seatbelts. Sheldon School will be participating in a statewide challenge called "Battle of the Belt!," to get everyone to wear their seatbelts. Remember the slogan "Buckle Up! Arrive Alive!"

Over the next few weeks, the Sheldon Team Spirit will be sending home information about the Battle of the Belts. For more information, please contact Christy Lockard at the Sheldon School (417) 884-5111.
