Sunday storm causes problems in Arcadia

Due to a storm on Sunday night, it affected some of the telephone and Life Line Services. Cindy Remblinger from Fort Scott came to check a Life Line who called the Telephone Company who sent a helper who found the problem and soon all was well in Arcadia. It delayed the sending of Arcadia news this week.

Vanessa Murphy of Joplin, with her aunt and uncle Vickie and Larry Shead, and Mary V. Shead, attended the Art Showing in Memorial Auditorium in Pittsburg on Saturday evening. There she visited her cousin Maria Shead from Tulsa. Clayton Whitson had a large photography display of friends and many pictures of the Appalachian Trail he had traveled for a month. Other displays of Ceramic Creations were by Elizabeth Cosby. One section was entitled, "The Imperfect Pot." There were many very interesting creations. Refreshments were served along with guitar music throughout the evening. Clayton is a one time Youth Minister in a Pittsburg Church and a teacher in the Public School so many of his long time friends were present at the showing including his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Whitson from Wichita.

Dale McGrew of Pittsburg was a special guest in Arcadia Christian Church on June 13. Welcomed back were Donald and Terry Bright. A card was signed for Mae Watt who was unable to attend as usual. Others attending the dinner in the bungalow following services were Pastor Charles and Willa Cable, Song leader Stuart Semple assisted by Clay Carrington. Gary Peterson and Wayne Parrish who served the Communion and took the offering. Helping get dinner ready to serve included Ashley Stuart and Patty Peterson with their young girls from their Sunday School Class, Josie Bryant, Cheyenne Melon and her mother, Brandy, and Vera and John Parrish, Carole Garrison, and Mary V. Shead. JOY Class meeting was announced for Monday evening, June 19, at 6 p.m.

Mrs. D.J. Davis from Georgtown, Texas, spent last week visiting her daughter, Haley and Mark Shead, Katie and Benjamin in Fort Scott.

The Cato Historical Society still meets on the fourth Tuesday each month in the Arcadia Community Center at 6:30 p.m.

The garage belonging to Mr. and Mrs. Bob Cable, rural Nevada, had a fire. They lost both vehicles therein but very thankful the home that was attached was safe.

Galen Dunn, who with his wife Jodie Dunn have returned to their home in Minneapolis, Minn.
