Chetopa sweeps Eagles to claim Three Rivers title
UNIONTOWN -- With the Three Rivers League championship on the line here Wednesday evening, visiting Chetopa defeated Uniontown 4-3 and 5-1 to finish the league portion of the schedule unbeaten.
The Hornets finished 10-0 in TRL play and are 17-3 overall. Uniontown was 5-3 in league play -- the Eagles won't be able to make up games with St. Paul -- and will go into their own Regional Tournament next week with a record of 11-5.
In two close games, recognizing the difference between the teams was simple.
"Cheopa made the plays; we didn't," Eagle head coach Alan Shinn said. "Their pitching completly dominated us."
The opener was scoreless until the fifth inning when Chetopa scored once on a double, a walk and a single. The Hornets -- who will be the top seed in the Sedan Regional -- added three in the sixth in part due to three Eagle errors.
Uniontown didn't have a base hit until the sixth inning when four singles helped them get on the board.
Audrey Dixon's seventh-inning double brought home two runs for Uniontown. Dixon was the only Eagle with 2 hits.
Tayler Shook (5-4) struck out 6 batters and allowed just 4 hits and 2 walks.
The Hornets led the second game 5-0 after 4 innings as they handed Ithaca Marlier (6-1) her first loss of the season. The Eagles were held to 4 base hits. No one had more than one.
