Knopp, Bartlett win events at Thad Clements Invitational

CHANUTE -- Griffin Knopp and Colt Barlett were both event winners at the Thad Clements Invitational here Friday.

Knopp once again took high jump as he cleared 6 feet, 4 inches. He also finished second in the 300-meter hurdles in 44.33 seconds and third in triple jump at 41' 10".

Bartlett won shot put with a heave of 46' 8", which was 15 inches better than the runner-up. He added a second-place make of 130' 1" in discus to his day's medals.

Brady Fink also earned two medals for the Tigers as he was third in high jump at 6 feet even and sixth in triple jump at' 36' 11 3/4".

Other Fort Scott boys' medalists included Zach Riley, fourth in shot at 117' even, Pierce Rienbolt, fifth in the 1,600 meters in 5:06.50, and the 4x400-meter relay team, fifth in 3:51.31.

Pittsburg won the team title with 111 points followed by Iola with 100 and Chanute wit 95. Fort Scott was fifth with 57 points.

Tiger girls were sixth in the nine-school field with 34 points, one ahead of Independence and two behind Parsons. Pittsburg also won this side of the meet, scoring 136 points. Chanute was second with 113 and Iola was third with 85.

The highest individual result for Fort Scott's girls was the second-place result picked up by Megan McDermed when she went 108 feet even in javelin. McDermed was also third in discus with a mark of 96' 3".

Katrina Yakel picked up her first varsity medal in her first varsity meet, taking third in the 100 meters in 13.50.

Mallory Shelton picked up three medals. She was fourth in high jump, clearing 4' 10", and the triple jump, going 31' 6 3/4". She was fifth in the 400 meters in 1:07.86.

Paige Denton won two distance medals. She was fifth in the 1,600 meters in 6:13 and sixth in the 3,200 in 13:37.78.

Marliss Allen was sixth in javelin with a throw of 90' 4".

The Tigers will go to Iola Thursday to take part in the Southeast Kansas League Relays, the final event of the regular season. The first event is expected to start at 3:30 p.m. at Riverside Stadium.
