Smith sets school record at Oswego
OSWEGO -- It Uniontown's first meet of the season, senior Abbie Smith broke the school record in the 100-meter hurdles here Tuesday.
Smith's 15.7-second time was just one of three first-place medals she won on the day. She also won the long jump with a mark of 17 feet, 2 inches and the 300-meter hurdles in 51.94 seconds.
Also for the Uniontown girls, Jacy Ermel won javelin with a throw of 114' 2 1/2", took second in shot put and was fourth in discus and the 200-meter dash. Jessica Schaaf was second in the 3,200 meters and third in the 1,600. Abby Dixon was second in javelin and Lauren Rockhold was fifth in the 200 meters.
Ben Dixon won three events for the boys. He took long jump at 19' 3 1/2", triple jump at 37' 3 1/2" and the 200 meters in 24.57. He was also sixth in the 100 meters.
Zach Travis was first in the javelin with a mark of 136' 6".
Trenton Miller was second in discus for the Eagles. Seth Sympson was third in the 800, fifth in high jump and sixth in discus. Barry McAnulty was fourth in javelin. Dakota Wiley took fifth in triple jump and Sam George placed sixth in javelin.
"Even though the conditions were not ideal -- extemely windy," Uniontown head coach Jackie Hall said," our kids performed well. This was a good first meet for us. It allowed us to see where we are at and we know we can improve on our marks and times."
The Eagles will go to Frontenac this afternoon but won't have another meet after that until April 19, when they to go Burlington.
