Symphony performance features theme of love in final concert

Thursday, April 8, 2010

The Southeast Kansas Symphony will put on their final concert of the season at a performance planned for April 18 in Fort Scott.

"So Romantic!" a concert featuring Tckaikovsky's "Symphony No. 5 in E Minor," Sibelius's "Rakastava (the Lover)" and Ney Rosauro's "Marimba Concerto, Op.12," will also be the last performance for symphony conductor Stella Hastings. Hastings is stepping down from the position in order to teach full time in the voice area at PSU.

"I'm giving myself a going away present by doing the Tckaikovsky number, which has been on my to-do list for so long," Hastings said. "And the Rosauro work is like having a piece of dark chocolate before dinner. We're thrilled to be able to present such marvelous works."

The concert will begin at 3 p.m. at the Danny and Willa Ellis Family Fine Arts Center, located at 2108 South Horton in Fort Scott. Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and those under 18, and free to PSU students. They can be purchased at the PSU ticket office by calling (620) 235-4796 or by visiting http://www.pittstate.edu/office/tickets/.
