FSHS honors 40 at annual Plus 5 dinner
The annual Plus 5 Dinner took place Thursday in the Fort Scott High School commons area.
Forty students qualified to receive invitations to the dinner. The program began in 1991 to recognize students who were able to raise their third quarter grade .5 or above their cumulative grade point average.
Historically, the third quarter is the most difficult time of the year for students to raise their grades. Nationally, most students' grades fall or remain the same during this academic period, according to a news release.
Students who qualified to attend the dinner were given the option of inviting a teacher to the dinner who had been an encouragement to them in raising their grades.
The following students received invitations to the dinner: Garrett Baugher, Eliza Beerbower, Kristen Bolin, Megan Bolin, Kyle Burch, Sean Caesar, Jessica Carnes, Heather Cartwright, Derek Cassett, Tiffani Clarkson, ShayLynn Clements, Brady Coffman, Michael Durossette, Alycia Endicott, Michael Flater, Jessy Forester, Chavez Gaynor, John Hawkins, Josh Hawkins, Griffin Hulbert, Wyatt Hulbert, Dalton Irby, Corrina Johnson, Nate Lemons, Brandi Mastin, Tanner McNutt, Kolby Montee, Michael Nighswonger, Taylor Page, Amanda Parrish, Ashley Parrish, John Seek, Hannah Silvara, Ellen Stienbarger, Megan Stockstill, Cherokee Sutton, Karrlie Thorpe, Angel West, Dezmund Willard and Lucas Williams.
Attendees enjoyed a variety of pizzas, ice cream and soft drinks that were provided. Following the meal, FSHS Principal Bob Beckham introduced each student who then received an achievement certificate from FSHS Assistant Principal Rob McKim.
