Arcadians plan, host Easter celebrations

Error correction must be made from last week's news in that Ruth Holand of Liberal, Mo., and her sister, Ellen Bowker of Sheldon, Mo. did not enter a care center in Lamar, Mo. I apologize.
This past week and the days to follow have been busy ones for the two Churches in town in that Monday evening the Open Door Mission is hosting a Passover Dinner for all who care to attend.
They are planning an Easter morning breakfast with the Christian Church Congregation as their guests. Both activities are in Arcadia Community Center.
Last Saturday the Christian Church hosted a Yearly Ladies Retreat with all ladies in the area as guests. Twenty seven ladies signed the book and entered their names for many door prizes that were given. Each lady received a fancy note pad.
On Saturday, Feb. 27, Bill and Linda Bridgewater took their granddaughter, Allynn Bridgewater, 4, to compete in the Southwest Missouri Hare Raisers annual rabbit show in Neosho, Mo. Allyn exhibited three silver marten rabbits. Her black silver marten doe took first place and Best of Breed in the senior class. Her blue silver marten doe took first place in its class and Best of Variety in the senior class. Her Black silver marten buck took third place in the senior class. While there, Allynn chose three new rabbits including another silver marten buck and a pair of buck and doe of mini rexes to use for competition in future shows. In May, she plans to enter the Carthage show.
On a recent Sunday, the family of Raymond Kalm gathered at Chicken Mary's in Yale to celebrate his 73rd birthday. His parents, Hurl and Nellie Kalm, retired, now live in Prebyterian Village in Fort Scott while Raymond is living on the Kalm farm, rural Garland. He is a very kind and helpful farmer to his neighbors.
Loritta Gobl, of Mulberry, called to say thank you for reading about her sister Anna Mae Douglas Murray who was mentioned in last week's news.
Another interesting article in Nell Dikeman's 50 years ago about an Arcadia person known by many folks on old mail routes. He was Merrriel Martinson rural letter carrier retired after 40 years of service on the same route. He was born on the ninth month of l899 at 9 a.m. and weighed 9 pounds. He married Nell Gladson on April 22, 1922 when both he and his bride were 22 years of age. Martinson served under five postmasters: William Caldwell, C.J. Nickols, George Roeback, Truman Ballard and Tom Kauble.
On Wednesday evening, March 24, Fox 14 News at 9 p.m., showed the picture of Tyler Jeck as one of the special baseball players in Pittsburg. He is the son of Mr and Mrs. (Debbie Tyler) Jeck and grandson of Herman Tyler, Arcadia.
The JOY Sunday School Class of Arcadia Christian Church celebrated its 54th anniversary on Monday evening, March 22, atGebhardt's, rural Mulberry, with 14 present including our former Sunday School teacher, Emory and Betty Briggs from Nowata, Okla.
The present teacher, Gary Peterson gave the blessing. Johnny and Debbie Schaub friends of the classmates stopped by to greet the group. Herman Tyler was a special guest.
The history of the last year was read by the Secretry, Vera Parrish.
The table was decorated with a red tablecoth for this special occasion. Tiny colored jellybean Easter Eggs were sacked with a notation HAPPY EASTER JOY from members of the Church Board, Wayne and Christie Parrish. They also ordered onion rings for all.
Others present were Carole Garrison, Patty Peterson, Betty Dehn, Mae Watt, John Parrish, Walter Foulk and Mary V. Shead.
