Fort Scott High School senior Jolee Sharp has put her name on several all-time FSHS basketball record lists during her career. Friday night at Chanute, it's certain that she will reach the 1,000-point mark for her high-school career. This is a mark that has been reached by only two boys in school history even though boys basketball has been played in one form or another at FSHS for over 100 years while girls basketball only got its start in the mid-1970's.

Sharp is averaging a little over 20 points per game this season. If she can maintain that pace, she will become the second-highest scorer in the history of FSHS basketball for either gender. This is likely to happen in the final game of the regular season against Coffeyville on February 25, which will be played at the FSHS gymnasium. If not then, Sharp would likely achieve that feat in the first round Sub-State Tournament game, which will most likely be played at home.

Here is how Sharp stacks up against the best players in FSHS basketball history -- boys orgirls.

Girls' career scoring

992 -- Jolee Sharp, 2007-10 (ongoing).

870 -- Dennie Young, 1989-92.

864 -- Krista Goltra, 2002-06.

815 -- Kary Stewart, 1993-96.

741 -- Nicole Brown, 1999-2002.

All players career scoring

1,173 -- Austin Boots, 2002-05.

1,060 -- Stephen Gentry, 1998-2001.

992 -- Jolee Sharp, 2007-10 (ongoing).

990 -- Michael Gentry, 1994-97.

985 -- Matt Bloomfield, 1996-99.

936 -- Keith Lancaster, 1999-2002.

935 -- Gary Floyd, 1984-87.

Girls' single-season scoring

390 -- Dennie Young, 1991-92.

386 -- Jolee Sharp, 2008-09.

367 -- Dennie Young, 1992-93.

335 -- Karen Colegrove, 1984-85.

323 -- Jolee Sharp, 2009-10 (ongoing).

319 -- Nicole Brown, 2000-01.

303 -- Nicole Brown, 2001-02.

NOTES: Sharp needs 68 points to break the single-season scoring record. She will do this against Coffeyville on February 25 if she maintains her 20-point-per-game scoring pace, though it's possible she could do this as soon as the February 19 home game versus Iola...Karen (Colegrove) Curran is Fort Scott's head girls golf coach and a freshman basketball coach. She was the head coach of Fort Scott's 2005 Class 4A State Champion softball team...If Sharp gets to 400 points this season, she would reach a mark only eight boys in school history have been able to attain....

Girls' single-game scoring

33 -- Karen Colegrove, 1984-85 season.

30 -- Jolee Sharp, vs. Coffeyville, Jan. 26, 2010.

30 -- Nicole Brown vs. Willard, Dec. 2001.

30 -- Amy Bartelsmeyer, 1992-93 season.

29 -- Billie Joe Evans, 1991-92 season.

28 -- Jolee Sharp, vs. Columbus, Feb. 9, 2010.

28 -- Jolee Sharp, vs. Parsons, Jan. 18, 2010.

28 -- Jami McKenney, vs. Independence, Jan. 2002

28 -- Dennie Young, 1991-92 season.

NOTES: The marks for Colegrove, Bartelsmeyer, Evans and Young came from a list of season-ending summaries that were compiled by former sports editor Dave Wagner. In each instance, it was indicated that these players scored their high points one time that season. Because it was a full-season summary, there is no indication if those players scored high enough at another point during that season to be included on this list more than once....McKenney also had 20 rebounds her 28-point game....It is entirely possible that a higher scoring total is not in the Tribune's archives. Therefore, this list should be considered unofficial.
