PLEASANT JOHN PRUITT
Pleasant John Pruitt, 88, retired pharmacist, loving father and grandfather, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010. There was a rosary at 6 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 31 with Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 1, both at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic CHurch, 1321 Stratford Lane Wichita, Kan., 667206.
Survivors include Norma, hiw wife of 64 years; daughter, Miriam (Tony) Madrigal, sons, Joe (Diana) Pruitt and Chris (Ann) Pruitt; grandchildren, Andrew (Sonia), Anna, Ben, Kate (Mike); great-granddaughter Isabella; sisters, Naomi Cosens and Peggy Pruitt.
Pleasant enjoyed his family and gardening. He also loved to write letters to his grandchildren about growing up in Kansas.
Pleasant attended KU and was especially fond of KU basketball games.
His sweet nature and honesty were his greatest attributes.
Pleasant, son of Pleasant Vandalia Pruitt and Myrtle Ann Durbin, grew up in Prescott, Kan. He graduated from Prescott Rural High School and played on the winning state basketball team his senior year.
He loved hunting with his bird dogs and fishing.
He joined the Navy and served in WWII in the Philippines, working in a hospital there. He met his wife, Norma, at a USO Dance in Spokane, Wash. They were married after the war.
He owned his own pharmacies in Mound City, Mulvane, Wichita and Augusta.
A memorial has been established with St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Arrangements by: Downing and Lahey Mortuary East, Wichita, Kan.
