Bill R. Watt, CEO of Retail Services Inc., took two of his people, Jack Jacobs, Vice-President of Specialty Foods and Dave Crandall, Business Manager, to San Francisco, to attend the International Fancy Food Show. While there, they visited with manufacturers of specialty foods from 77 countries.
Bill and Clarice Swezey, Mulberry, are the great-grandparents to newborn Allyson Naomi Johnson. She was born Dec. 28, 2009 to Clint and Angela Johnson of Bronson. The baby's brother is William Johnson. The Swezeys are former Arcadia residents.
On Jan. 13, Allen R. Watt was honored by three of his supervisors from Cessna in Wichita, with a two-hour luncheon. This was due to the fact this is his 30th year of employment there. He was awarded a certificate and a lapel pin with two diamonds and inscribed with CESSNA. Since his 25th year of working there, he has been called The Boss!
Velma Jewell, a graduate of AHS in l937 and a long time teacher in this area called from her more recent residence, Riverview Place in Ozark, Mo., to let her friends know she is doing well and enjoying the activities that take place in the care center. She is active and takes part in the games and enjoys her new friends there. She asked about an old-time neighbor from girlhood days, Nellie Kalm, who, with husband, Hurl Kalm, now live in Fort Scott Presbyterian Village.
JOY Sunday School Class meeting was held in the Christian Church Bungalow on Monday evening, Jan. 18, with such a small attendance, due to cold weather, they ate in the kitchen after a short business meeting. Pastor David Peterson came by to greet the ladies but left to study for the seminar he was planning to attend the next day in Colorado. The ladies gave him a blessing and wished him well.
The yearly Ladies Retreat has been announced for March 27 with Cheri Walrod as guest speaker. Christie Parrish will be in charge of the crafts. A carry-in salad luncheon will be served at noon. Patty Peterson and Betty Dehn are the sponsors.
Mark and Haley Shead of Fort Scott had a special date last Saturday night, Jan. 23, 2010, when he took her to the Buffalo Grill in celebration of her birthday. Katy and baby Benjamin Shead were guests of their grandparents, Larry and Vickie Shead that evening.
One sunny day, Charles Corporon, Pittsburg, and Bill Dobbins, Frontenac, spent an afternoon in the home of Bill's brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Dobbins, where they enjoyed tea and muffins. They are school mates from the days living in Arcadia. Bill was also a teacher in the elementary grades.
Charles and Willa Cable, Redfield, were guest minister and song leader in Arcadia Christian Church on Jan. 24. It was good to hear our piano as Charles also played accompaniment to congregation singing. He then sang a solo before sermon time. Their hosts for dinner were Pat and Gary Peterson. Charles attended Ozark Christian College in by gone days and later became the pastor of the Arcadia church. He left us with this to remember "Don't worry about anything. Pray about everything. Thank God for all things."
