Conservation district annual meeting at Uniontown Saturday

The Bourbon County Conservation District will conduct its annual meeting at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the commons area of Uniontown High School.

During the event, local producers will be recognized for their outstanding work in conservation. District officials will announce the award winners for the Wildlife, Grassland, Continued Conservation, and the Kansas Bankers awards. The district will also recognize 14 students in local school districts who are winners in a recent poster and limerick contest. The event is open to the public.

This year's county conservation award winners include David Renard and Eugene and Ruth Farmer, the winners of the Kansas Bankers Conservation Award; Ben Mitchell and Dean Mann, the winners of the Grassland Award; Cindi Vietti, the winner of the Wildlife and Parks Habitat Award; and Warren and Irene Schooley, the winners of the Continuing Conservation Award.

The BCCD can assist county landowners and agricultural producers with a broad array of conservation planning needs. Some of the common conservation practices in Bourbon County include terraces, waterways, ponds, pest management, and fencing are available if the producer is eligible for cost share assistance or conservation planning.
