Eagle girls fall in YC title game

YATES CENTER -- "Flat" was the word Uniontown girls' head coach Ken Holt used to describe his team in Saturday's Yates Center Wildcat Classic championship game.

The Eagles (3-1) held a 20-18 lead at halftime but Yates Center (3-1) outscored Uniontown 19-6 in the third period and held on for the victory.

"We just came out flat tonight," Holt said. "We couldn't get into any kind of flow. Give Yates Center credit, they really outworked us tonight."

Uniontown's boys gained their first victory of the season with a 58-20 thrashing of Altoona-Midway in the seventh-place game. Zach Travis scored 16 points to lead the Eagles (1-3) while Ben Dixon added 13.

"Our kids came out and played with a lot of intensity on the defensive end in the first half," Uniontown head coach Nathan Hinrichs said. "We are still looking for a complete game."

The Eagles led 18-2 after one period and 37-4 at the half.

Uniontown's boys lost to Crest in Friday's consolation semifinal, 52-35, despite DuShawn Robinson's 14-point effort. The box score for that game can be seen under the "Scoreboard" banner to the right.

Uniontown's teams host St. Paul in the first Three Rivers League games of the season tonight at the West Bourbon Elementary School gymnasium.
