Lady 'Hawks complete sweep of Linn County
PLEASANTON -- Jayhawk-Linn's girls finished a sweep through the Linn County Tournament here Saturday night with a 49-13 bashing of host Pleasanton.
Due to an error with the Tribune's fax machine, Jayhawk-Linn scoring totals are not available. The Jayhawks shot 50 percent from the field, making 22 of 56 field-goal attempts. Emma Hargrove had 6 rebounds to lead the 'Hawks (4-0) and Meriel Long had 11 steals.
"Defensively, we played well," Jayhawk head coach Charlie Beckman said. "We did a nice job on the boards and attacking Pleasanton's defense."
Friday night, the Jayhawks beat Prairie View, 49-31, as they shot 43 percent from the floor on 19 of 44. Chelsea Beckman led the 'Hawks with 14 points while Taylor Dawson added 10.
Dawson also led Jayhawk-Linn with 7 rebounds. Long had 4 assists.
"Prairie View did a nice job of getting us out of our rhythm," Beckman said. "We did not take care of the ball very well. We did a nice job on defense, especially the fourth quarter."
The Jayhawks led 20-7 after one quarter.
Jayhawk boys (1-3) lost to Pleasanton Saturday, 60-54, but beat Prairie View, 54-36, Friday for their first victory of the season. No statistics are available for either match.
Jayhawk-Linn boys and girls will host Marmaton Valley tonight in a game between former Three Rivers League rivals. The girls' game is expected to begin around 6:30 while the boys' should tip off at approximately 7:45 p.m.
