Families celebrate Thanksgiving

All are invited to attend the Meyer Bluegrass Family Band Concert from Seldon, Mo. They perform a varity of Bluegrass and Bluegrass Gospel songs. The free Gospel concert will be held in Arcadia Christian Church on Saturday at 7 p.m. An offering for the band will be taken. Refreshments will be served following the concert. All are invited to fellowship for the evening.
Mildred Nicoletti hosted a Thanksgiving dinner in her Arma home for her family and friends. Guests were: Joe and Beckye Nicoletti with Christin and Whitney from Topeka; Christie and Wayne Parrish; Jenny and Ryan Dugan with Allyson, Kaden and Karter; Arcadia; Janet, Mark and Tara Van Leeuwen, St. Paul; Vera and John Parrish, Pittsburg and Frank Blazic and Josh, Arma.
Carole Garrison joined her family group in Joplin, Mo., at the home of her son Gary and Nancy Golladay. Their daughter, Angela and John Lane and sons, Jacob and Brandon joined the group for Thanksgiving dinner.
Friday after Thanksgiving, Simeon, Alexandra and Seth Pruse from Texas; Chrisi and Michael Shead from Michigan, Clayton Witson, Wichita; Maria Shead and Aimee Blyer, Mitzi and Joel Ray with Cademon and Atalie, Tulsa, Okla., and local guests, Vickie, Larry and Mary V. Shead enjoyed a Fireplace wiener roast with s'mores in the new home of Mark, Haley, Katy, three-years-old and Benjamin Shead, two-months-old, Fort Scott. Family pictures were taken to remember the occasion.
On Thanksgving Day, in a large tent at the Shead Farm, rural Garland, 85 King relatives and friends gathered for their annual family reunion and a turkey and ham dinner.
Arcadia folks were happy to see the wedding picture of Marcia Ellen Guthrie and Michael David Townsend. She is the daughter of Mark and Janet Guthrie of Nevada, The Guthrie families are formerly from Arcadia.
Again, Nell Dikeman mentions familiar Arcadia names in her 50 years ago items. In l959, returning lettermen on the Arcadia High School cage squad were Melvin Nichols, Merle Mayfield, Tommy Stelle, Howard Beerbower, Elton Lakin, Ken Kunstel, Bob Wheeler, Howard Holland, Gene Johnson, Richie Dixon, Charles Hines and Jerry Engle. Ginardo Giacometti was the coach.
Arcadia Activities the month of December include Friday, Dec. 11, Santa will arrive at Community Center around 6:30 p.m. Family night is Dec. 19. Come have fun with your family. Dec. 22, Cato monthly meeting. City hall will be closed Dec. 24, 25 and 31. Dec. 26 Our Gang dinner. Thank you to City clerk, Linda Moris, for the Arcadia City News each month.
