Relay for Life Fall Festival scheduled for Saturday
The Bourbon County Relay for Life organization's annual Fall Festival is scheduled to take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at 2478 Limestone Road, the home of local Relay for Life member and event co-organizer Lavetta Simmons.
The festival will feature a wide variety of games and activities for people of all ages and will also serve as a way to raise money for the organization's mission to one day find a cure for cancer. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Bourbon County Relay for Life chapter, which raises money for the American Cancer Society and its services, and The Sharing Bucket, a new local nonprofit organization that provides emotional and financial assistance to cancer patients and their families.
The event will feature games and activities such as a pumpkin patch, a kiddie train, horseback riding, a wagon ride, a duck pond, a face painting booth, a petting zoo, and a bean bag toss. A variety of food items will also be available, including hot dogs, caramel apples, funnel cakes, barbecue sandwiches, fudge, and friendship bread.
Simmons' house is located just south of U.S. Highway 54 on Limestone Road about one mile east of Fort Scott.
